Song Suggestions

One of the hardest things about panto is choosing the right songs for different parts of the script, signature tunes for the villlain and hero, suitable duets or ensemble pieces. To get you started many of our scripts have suggestions included but here are a few more of our favourites:

Ensemble - think big production numbers to get your audience singing and clapping along:

  • Reach - S Club 7. Great opening number, easy to choreograph
  • Dancing Queen - ABBA . Anything by the Swedish super group works - over the years we've used Super Trouper, Money Money Money, Waterloo - the list goes on!
  • 9-5 - Dolly Parton. Well known, toe tapping chorus number
  • You Can't Stop the Beat - Hairspray. Always popular and gets everyone moving.
  • Don't Stop Believing - Journey. A more hopeful, less bouncy number
  • 500 Miles - Proclaimers. Great if the characters are going on any sort of journey
  • Happy - Pharell Williams. Another well known, toe tapper
  • Better when I'm dancing - Meghan Trainor. Really good song and dance number.
  • Everybody - Back Street Boys. Great if you have a group of good male singers.  Any boy band number will have the audience dancing.

Villain and Dame - contrasting numbers to bring some texture and highlight character differences:

Dame - the signature tune should reflect the Dame's personality so it might be cheeky, upbeat or completely inappropriate:

  • There is nothing like a Dame - South Pacific
  • Man, I feel like a woman - Shania Twain
  • I'm too sexy - Right, said Fred
  • Girls just wanna have fun - Cyndi Lauper

Villain - the badder the better. We have sometimes used an intro like the Carmina Burana for our villain and other times a song:

  • Bad to the bone - George Thorogood
  • Bad - Michael Jackson
  • Black Magic - Little Mix
  • Bad Guys _ Bugsy Malone

Duets and Love Songs - when boy meets girl or everything turns out well as it always does in pantomime!

  • Marry You - Bruno Mars
  • What do I do now - A Slice of Saturday Night
  • I only wanna be with you - The Tourists
  • I'm a believer - The Monkees
  • Going to the chapel - The Dixie Cups
  • Best Years of Our Lives - Modern Romance

The Big Finish - we nearly always end with a Christmas number as our pantomime is in December and there are dozens to choose from:

  • Step into Christmas - Elton John
  • Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens
  • I wish it could be Christmas every day - Wizzard
  • Underneath the tree - Kelly Clarkson
  • All I want for Christmas - Mariah Carey
  • Merry Christmas Everybody - Slade
